Quadrunner 250 starting issues

Hi. I have an old Quadrunner 250 (about 1990 vintage). I have to crank the starter for a very long time before the engine fires (but it always does start). I assume this is because it takes a long time to pump fuel to the engine. Can I fit a 'primer pump' of some sort to prime the carb? Hope this makes sense! Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks, Richard

Hard starts are often attributed to out of spec valves. Check the valve clearances and adjust them if necessary. And welcome to the Forum.

These have a vacuum activated fuel pump as well. If the diaphragm cracks, it can cause all sorts of issues with starting and (not) running well.

Back to basics: Are you using the choke at all?

The choke is usually on the left handlebar and is a lever that just moves up and down. If it doesn't have one, then that is your problem right there.
