Just wanted to give my take on the 2" body lift kits for the 750. Over the winter, I added a Perfex 2" lift to the 2020 750 for a couple of reasons, the main one being that lately I have felt that I do not have enough ground clearance in a lot of the areas I ride and bigger tires were not compensating enough. I was taking on water thru the CVT snorkels at beaver dam crossings and I was bottoming out on stumps and rocks when bushwhacking thru the woods.
The kit is very well made, but very simple, and what it does is change the bottom mounting location for the front shocks and changes the top mounting location for the rear shocks. In addition to adding the lift, I added 27" Interco Radial Reptile tires on the same 5 + 2 offset rims and added 1" aluminum wheel spacers all the way around. I now have 49" from outside tire to outside tire. The reason I did this instead of going with a new 4+3 offset rim is because I didnt know if I was going to like the lift or not and wasn't sure if I would be removing it. I also added a steering stabilizer to the front of my non-power steering assisted 750 and I added new sway bar linkage to the rear to compensate for the lift.
Since doing this work, I have put a little over 600 miles on the machine and here is my take.
I Love It! Before making these changes I had 2,500 miles on an all stock machine with 26" tires, so I am pretty sure I knew the handling characteristics of the machine and what its limits were. In all honesty, I feel no difference at all in the handling of the machine, other than it has way more clearance now and I have no problem going over anything that I would have steered around before. I was getting on it in the turns on the gravel trails as fast I did previously and it was handling perfect. I seriously couldn't tell any difference in handling. What a Machine this King Quad Is!!!
The second thing is if any of you without the power steering feel like the front end washes out on the trails at higher speeds or have been hit hard by the bump steer problem, go with the steering stabilizer. It absolutely has transformed my rig. It is so tight and has no play in the front. Everything I read about it was positive, but it is a high priced item so I didnt get it, but since I was doing all these other mods, I added it in and I wish it was one of the first things I did.
I am running the stock axles and stock shocks (at the same 2nd to softest setting) and I have had no problems with either of them at this time. There is no binding, no noise and the axles turn as effortlessly as before. I do recognize they are at a steeper angle now, but they seem to me to be working fine.
If there is one negative for me to comment on it would be "hard braking". Regular, normal braking works the same but if you are going at a good clip and really need to hit both brakes hard, the machine acts a little different than before. It is something that is not going to make me change back, it just acts differently and I need to figure it out and adjust to it.
I am a bubble gum garage mechanic and do all my own work to all my toys. I will be tearing down the front again this winter and inspecting, cleaning and re-greasing everything. Now that I have over 3,000 miles I am probably going to pull the A-Arms front and back and inspect and re-grease bushings or replace if needed. This way I can keep an eye on the suspension and travel parts more closely to see if they are wearing from the lift.
