I bought the 2004 ATV for $1.4K, runs and starts up well, changed the oils and bought new tires. The problem is that the front differential case is cracked, there is a hole at the top and the bottom screw is missing. I wanted to use the ATV for camping this weekend and will fix it after. (A used front diff on eBay is about $250) Is it possible in the meantime to patch the cracks with JD weld, and use the ATV as 2WD or would I ruin it more? This is my first ATV so I'm learning.

I wouldn’t use engine oil in the front diff unless the engine and front diff utilize the same oil. Otherwise, utilize a hypoid gear oil, 80/90.

I second the hypoid oil. You will eventually need it anyway if you plan to switch out the diff. O use Bel Ray gear saver 80w-90 on my 07. Works great.
