Has anybody ever installed the lower steering stem bushing on an older model (2005-6-7) suzuki king quad 700 without buying the very expensive installer? If so, what method did you use? I am trying to do this using a large socket but it is a tight space & I am not having any luck. It looks like it's going to take a lot of force & I don't want to damage the new bushing. Thanks in advance.

If the KingQuad lower steering stem bushing is anything like the Vinson do not try to pound it out with a hammer you will bend the metal that the bushing is in. I helped a friend do his and we didn't realize how thin the metal was and we bent the metal really bad.

When i replaced it on my Vinson i used a hack saw blade and cut from the inside out by hand. Took forever (3 or 4 cuts) but worked well and nothing got harmed.

The old bushing came out still on the steering stem soo I didn't have to worry about that. My problem is getting the new bushing back in the frame member.

I would sure like to know exactly how you did that. I am at a stand still.

I am trying to remember but i didn't buy a tool to do it. I was thinking i used a 1/2" bolt ran it though a washer then slid it thought he bushing and though the hole in the frame. Put a socket on the back side and another washer and a nut. Then simply tightened the bolt so it forced the bushing into the hole in the frame. At least thats the plan i was thinking about when i did mine.

But i also have a ball joint tool laying around and im starting to wonder if i used it because i was using it to press out the u joint on the front i was working on at the same time. There is always more than one way to skin a cat i just dont remember how i did it and i cant find pictures.

picture of the type of press i might have used. You can rent them for free from places like autozone. But the bolt thing should work just use enough washers so they dont start to bend and get distorted and crush.
