Man I'm ready for some warmer weather. °17f out in the pole barn and maybe up to 10" of snow coming. I did get a contours in yesterday. Wheel cylinders in, most of the brake parts cleaned up and ready to reinstall, brake vent lines on and secured, carb drain installed rear brake cables adjusted.

You and I both. Our winters here in northern Ontario, Canada last at least 6 months. It’s freaking long and summer is never long enough. Hoping for an early spring this year year. Hope you managed to keep warm out in the pole barn.

I've heard our valley called little Saskatchewan. It lives up to its name. I found my little torpedo heater, makes it bearable. Woke up to this .

How did you clean them? The meter readers indeed suck. When you get the adapter kit you will have a better time. Analog meters can show a weak spot in the TPS that digital cannot.

Hunh? Traced power into and out of the key switch. The kill switch is not acting right. So I have to take that apart. Sitting there looking at it I figured I should look inside the master cylinder since I'm putting new wheel cylinders on. It was crapped up so cleaned it up. Banjo bolt had crud so that means the lines are yucky, right? Tried to spray some cleaner through and no joy. So since they're unhooked and all I should use the compressor to blow em out. Then the heater ran out and the air machine is in another building so, wait she said we were going to make ice cream.

I should have splained better. Took the master cylinder off, swabed it out with a rag and screwdriver. Sprayed some carb cleaner in it and scrubbed with a little brush. Tried squirting carb cleaner through the hoses. No joy, so next I'll have to blow through them.

Well I may have discovered why this bike was put out to pasture. Finally got the starter to spin and thats all it does. Is that indicative of the sprag clutch being shot?
It could do but I would have thought it would at least try to turn engine. I wonder if someone hasnt removed an idler gear so as to disable lectric start ......like if it had a jammed starter clutch ( both my engines do this ) , so now the pull start will work ( it doesnt if the sprag is jammed ). Sooooo, Id yank the cover and make sure all the parts are there 1st (I have one in pieces if you want a picture.
This starter motor is very common , different mounting lugs but .......well the brush kit fits straight into my Ducati starter and the whole thing looks the same . Reason I mention this is that aparently ( according to some Ducati owners ) this motor can be assembled wrong and the starter will run backwards. I havnt figured out how this happens ......my guess is that the field windings are fitted arse about face.......which is possible. So maybe check the starter is turning the right way .🤔🙂

I took it apart to clean it, but don't see how it could be backwards. The commutator wouldn't be in the right place for the brushes to ride. May be though I guess 🤔. I'll check it anyhow. I'll pull another starter and try it. It wouldn't be rigged to pull start only. Being on those ski slopes in the dark pulling snow guns around they'd have to push button start. I'm going to pull the cover on the motor thats on the shelf anyhow, but thanks for the picture offer.

So should it turn clockwise, looking at the spline end?

The sprag clutch is behind the rotor . Those cap screws you can see the heads off hold the sprag clutch assy to the rotor . The proper tool is essential as Im sure you can see . The rotor is real tight , I had to ( twice ) make sure I was applying the puller correctly ( dont tighten the screw on sleeve against rotor .....leave a thread so the rotor has room to move .........that didnt happen to me 🙄......very nearly tho 😁) a bit of kinetic spanner on the puller bolt ( left hand thread ? ....beats me ) helps to break the taper .
