Hi all, A friend just picked up this 2004 LTZ 400 and asked me to look over it. We don't have any history on it as he got it in a storage unit purchase. I checked everything over and was able to get it running but it had a strange clunking sound when spinning over with the starter that only happened occasionally. I assumed a missing tooth on the starter or engagement gear. Then the starter started free spinning and not engaging. I opened the stator cover and discovered that all the bolts holding the flywheel to the rear flywheel gear had sheared off, but not before shredding the stator and damaging the flywheel. I suspected it was not charging and now I see why. Has anyone ever seen this before? I can get a stator pretty easily but not sure about the flywheel...Is that the correct name for the surrounding part? I see a lot of listings for the gear that sits behind it. Thanks!
