2002 Vinson LT -500. Have had this ATV for about 4 years ago. I use it for working around this ranch, mostly low gear work. It is a strong machine. Last oil change last year, everything was fine.
Just did a routine check on the dipstick last week and the oil looked milky. Drained the oil and Oh NO, it was not just oil.
Checked the radiator and it was empty.
Pulled the water pump and that seal is not the problem. Getting ready to pull the head. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Pulled the head off but could not see any obvious sign of a leak on the head gasket. Then while cleaning the head, I found a small metal plug about 5/8" in the middle of the casting that looked rotten! It went right into the water jacket. Could it be a freeze plug? See photo.
Suzuki dealer didn't know but will get back to me. Local machine shop supply has assortments of them.
Put it all back together and it runs! Still have milky look in the oil. Running half motor and half diesel oil and changing a couple times. Coolant is no longer leaking into the engine. So far so good.
