Hello All again. Neutral light is staying on (and or flickering) through all gearing except reverse. Reverse indicator works as expected. I am unable to locate the "exact" image/part using online diagrams. All show a sensor with two bolts holding it in place. Attached are images of a sensor on our bike - single bolt. Is this the SPEED sensor? Is anyone able to help identify/confirm the location & part number for the neutral / gear sensor? - uuugh

Appreciate all your time and assistance.

After a few more hours reading and looking at diagrams I've found the issue. A common thread in neutral light posts is that if the light is always OFF, then it is the neutral switch located in the engine. If the light is always ON or Flickering, then the ground wire to the sensor is shorting somewhere. In my case - the sensor leads go into the engine on the left side near where the starter is. The wires follow the frame back to the wiring harness near where the Fuel and Starter relays are under the seat. Simply moving those wires around was enough to get the neutral indicator working as expected. Now to try and see if it's actually grounding somewhere or a dirty / bad connection.

... and sure enough, just keep tracing the wiring harness until you find what your looking for and ye shall be rewarded with another project !!!

looks like a little wiring harness repair in the works, but nothing crazy.

That looks like mess. At least you found your culprit. May I suggest covering those wires after you fix them with some loom if you have the place for that.

definitely clean up the wiring, solder the connections, use heat shrink tubing over the splices and put wire loom as AJL719 suggested. You don’t want a field failure after a repair.

Good luck with the project and post some pictures when it’s finished.

for sure heatshrink - I use marine grade with the RTV. Its probably overkill but I don't mind a few extra bucks if it keeps me from getting stranded a few miles from my truck in the middle of the woods.
