Hi all, I have nice 97 King Quad 300 with 3000km I recently fixed up. It was running excellent before I pulled it into the shop to change an axle. After that I cannot get it to idle for more than ~20s without dying. Sometime it is very hard to start without choke or throttle, sometimes it starts right up. Sometimes I can drive it for a few seconds but then it dies out. Here's what I've tried the last week:

Carburetion
1. cleaned carb multiple times (was running perfect beforehand)
2. swapped in a new carb from a 96 KQ300 that runs perfect (no change)
3. tired fogging the whole area looking for a vacuum leak
4. removed and inspected the boot connecting carb to head, installed with new o ring and gasket

Fuel
1. cleaned fuel tank, new gas
2. cleaned and rebuild petcock with a non vaccum petcock
3. cleaned and rebuilt fuel pump (when quad runs fuel is definitely being pumped into carb)
4. confirmed all fuel and vacuum lines are clear

Air
1. no restriction in air system, all clean
2. tried with and without filter, airbox cover, etc (no change)

Spark
1. I have a new AGM battery, I have tried with and without it connected
2. good blue spark, timing light also shows it seems to be getting spark while it dies
3. tried multiple different regulator/rectifier units, cdi, coil, spark plugs
4. does not matter if lights are on or off

Engine
1. mechanically the engine is excellent. 140+ psi compression
2. extremely quiet top end, no valvetrain noise, ticking, etc.
3. everything shifts perfectly, no issues that I know of.

Plan forward:
1. I may try looking at the cam chain adjuster to see if something is off??
2. possibly bad ground/intermittent short in the wiring harness?? (really don't wanna pull the plastics off again...)
3. Is there some kind of governor kicking in and out??
4. I haven't done a leakdown test yet but I have no reason to suspect that's an issue

It really bothers me that all I did was some mechanical work on the rear end and now it runs like crap... I have lots of parts to troubleshoot with. Send me your ideas!!!!

Offering a reward to anyone who can solve this puzzle!!

Thank you,
Gundy
