Yes, its true. I'm a 60 year old man who has lived in the mountain for 40 years and this is my first ATV. I picked up a 1996 KQ300 yesterday.it looks like it lived outside for most of those years, but only has 794 miles on it. Starts, runs and shifts well with all the ranges and drive selections working. It came with a plow (manual lift) and a winch on a mount plate that slips on the front rack. It will be a working unit, rarely used for just recreation. Can't wait to start puttering around with it!

Those old 300’s are definitely a workhorse. You’ll have a solid machine as long as you keep up with general maintenance. And welcome to the Forum.

These 3 vertical dots in every one of your posts allows you to edit your posts. Possibly even delete them, I can’t remember. Either way, if your posts need deleting just let me know and I can tackle that for you.

Looks pretty good for a 27 year old machine. ... Plow setup alone is sweet. Curious ..... what did this machine cost ya? I've been seeing 25-30 year old quads around the northeast going for Crazy money. Actually, people are asking crazy money but I dont know what they are actually selling for.

Welcome to the forum. You got a good deal. Lots of info here from people that know that machine.

Enjoy.

You’ll wonder how you got by without it once you put it to work.

That ‘96 looks every bit as good at my ‘97 QR which I’ve always stored under cover. Looks like it may have the original tires on it still. Mine has a little more paint missing on the racks and wheels.

You can redo the seat cover, since it looks cracked. I recovered mine, inexpensive (Amazon) and not too difficult. A regular hand activated staple gun will work.

Be careful learning to use it. Statistics I recall seeing when I got mine is that the first six months of use are the highest incidence of injury. You might think about an ATV Safety Institute (ASI) training class or similar. When I took my free training in ‘97 there were folks in their 60s there. Suzuki would offer it for free with a new purchase, in fact, IIRC they offered a $100 incentive upon completion (just looked, they still do the same $100 incentive 26 years later). I know I don’t mend as quickly or well as I did several decades ago, so be safe.

I agree with ToyFord , be safe .
My Father was a coroner here for decades and he hates them . So many people ( farmers mostly ) getting killed , kids too , just doing their daily toil . I believe you need a good lot of upper body strength and fitness and a good bit of body weight to be able to wrestle them round . Give some thought as to how to get off it in a hurry too ......take it from me , winding up underneath them hurts . 😀

Now that I think of it, all the bones I’ve broken have as a result of Motorsports and my poor judgment. I agree, ideally a person should be able to mussel these thing around a bit to have the most control.

I suspect that’s in part why SxSs have gotten so popular, you ride in it, not on it and no amount of body English will effect a SxS, plus there’s a roll bar (if you use the seat belt). But I really do enjoy my quads and picking a good line augmented by some body English to climb a challenging grade.

Two things I learned the hard way. Don't put your feet on the ground unless you're getting on or off. Get off if you're going to push it. It ain't a motorcycle, those rear tires will grab you. The front tires will grab something and roll you over in four wheel drive. And throw you off quick.

Yup. I learned on dirt bikes. Then I rode three wheelers, and promptly ran over my leg several times. Modern plastics and foot wells on quads do encourage keeping your feet on the pegs. Although the mid ‘80s through late ‘90s Suzuki quads are very similar to their three wheeled predecessors in respect to the open toe and no lower platform forward of the foot pegs.

I will be careful. I'm going to be low and slow at all times. I have tons of experience on 2 wheels, 600lb adventure bike, 12,000 miles a year. If there's one thing I know its respect for the machine and what it can do to you!
