Hi guys my father has a 2006 suzuki Eiger 400 that was always garaged and mint with 600 miles. So it’s always ran well until the other day I opened it up in a field and it backfired out the exhaust and stalled out in 5th gear. I’ve sense drained the gas, replaced the suzuki petcock, soaked the carb and cleaned it 5 times and it’s spotless, adjusted valves 2 times, checked the flywheel magnets and they’re perfect, and I’ve also tried a Chinese carb and a new OEM $600 carb and it revd up better with the Chinese carb but wouldn’t idle and the OEM carb acted just like the Orginal. It’ll fire up but just keeps backfiring out the exhaust and the plugs white so it’s lean as can be. Idk where to start next, maybe a leak down test or vacuum test?

A correct running bike will yield a plug colour of tan paper brown. A whitetish plug means you are running to lean.

Well I realized I was given a carb off of an older Eiger and the seller is swapping me with another new OEM carb that is the right one so fingers crossed. I’ll keep you guys up to date once I try it.

Well I first was sent a OEM carb for an auto tried that didn’t work, then I was exchanged for the OEM foot shift carb and she still isn’t running right at all. I picked up a service manual. Kinda stumped cause it still backfires and doesn’t wanna rev. but hopefully the book can help me out, I guess timing is next...

Well I ended up fixing it. Not exactly sure what did it cause I tried many things at the same time but I removed my cylinder head cover and checked timing, then re adjusted my valves, installed a new NGK plug and I also unplugged my cdi box. I then started it up and it was acting a little funky and backfiring again so I took some fogging oil and blasted it into the carb while I hit the throttle and it now runs like a brand new machine. I have sense put 5 or so miles on it with no issues. Hope this helps someone in the future. Whatever you do don’t try a Chinese carb and go get yourself a service Manual.
