93 Quad Runner 250 Won't Start
I have searched the forums, and believe the issue could be the neutral safety switch, but not sure how to test it.
Background: 93 250 LT-4WD, well used by the time we purchased it, now only used for yard and cabin work (hauling and pulling.) Not used during winter months.
This spring, when I prepped it for use, it started, and ran for about 5 minutes, then stalled, It restarted, but would stall when shifted to 1st gear. At this time, the neutral light, would not come on, or the start button would not work (and would not, if the starting circuit is not sensing neutral, right?) some rocking and pushing of the ATV and repeated shifting from gear to neutral got the light to work and try to start, but during cranking, green light would go dark, and the starter would stop. Finally, the neutral light would not come on, no matter what was done. So, I parked it. Now, I have some time, and want to get it running myself if I can before hauling it in to a shop.
So far, here is what I have done:
Battery is 12.87 VDC, but had jumped in an automotive battery with no difference.
I removed the plastics and racks and cleaned any connectors I could find. I found the Blue, Blue-Black and the Blue-Red wires and where they are located on the engine and where they terminate see pictures. Cleaned the contacts.
Are there tests I am missing? From my story, is there some transmission issue? Some way to test the switches? Oil has not been changed yet, can this be an issue? I read somewhere the Kill switch could cause a problem? I did not clean that switch yet. Where is the best source for a service manual and schematics?
