2015 King Quad 750 Cranks but Won't Start

Hi guys,

Been awhile since I've been on here. Stopped in to read some threads on my issue but not reading anything that seems to be what I'm going through.

I have a 2015 King Quad 750 with only 110 miles on it.

2 weekends ago, I went out riding with some friends. Quad ran great the entire time. It was the first time I had ridden it in some time. During that week I did some slow riding around the yard. Quad still ran great.

This past weekend we had a snow storm. I started the quad and pulled it out to plow the driveway. While doing so, it ran and sounded fine, except it wanted to die on me a couple times. Like just cut out when I would come to a stop. I'd start it up again and be on my way.

It got to the point where it died and wouldn't restart. I let it sit and cranked it and could hear it trying to start, so I gave it just a little gas and it stayed running until I let go of the gas. I was able to do this twice. Now it'll crank and crank, but will not start even after letting it sit for some time.

I've verified spark, and fuel and I'm getting both.

It turns over just fine. I'm at a loss as to what it could be. I was thinking possibly a sensor? I verified good ground and fuses and I'm good there. I checked for codes and there is nothing there either.

I appreciate any help or ideas.

My culprit was a sticking throttle position sensor. Look up how to put the quad in dealer mode using the paper clip trick. This shows the throttle position alignment at idle on the gauge cluster. With the engine off, just open up the throttle and let go. See if that marker returns to center when you let go. If it doesnít, itís most likely the sensor.

Thanks wizkid, I will certainly give that a try and see what I come up with.

Well, I checked that. No codes when in dealer mode and the TPS line is centered and when I hit the throttle it returns to center.

Hmmm. Have you pulled the spark plug and tried cranking it and grounding it to the engine block to check for spark?

I can go on from there but it is the next easiest thing to check. Following that will be fuel.

So I haven't done that yet. But I pulled the plugs and they were wet. Occasionally when cranking, I'll be able to see a spark through the TB. Not like a backfire. I'm going to have to check both plugs tomorrow. But they are new before the last ride. I tried to spray some starting fluid in the TB and it wouldn't kick. So seems like spark, but not sure why I'll occasionally see spark through the TB. It's like right under the butterfly. Never blows passed that.

Hmmmmm. I forgot the new ones had dual plugs.

So these engines are a little different than a car when it comes to fuel injection. They assume a fuel pressure of 43 psi if memory serves me. So this pressure is used for the fuel calc since there is no fuel pressure sensor. The computer also uses the throttle position sensor position and the manifold air pressure to calculate the fuel required.

With dual plugs, Iíd suspect youíd still have spark but itís worth a check.

Is your fuel good? It is a necessity to treat fuel with any ethanol in it. Iíve seen it cause so many problems. If you used gas from an old can or a can that has been out in the weather, that could be a problem. Iíd try sea foam and fresh gas. I personally use AMSOIL Quickshot for all my outdoor equipment. Kept me problem free for years.

I doubt the air filter is clogged but worth a check.

Letís revisit fuel pressure. Remember I said it assumes 43 psi? Well the tiny fuel filter in the bottom of the fuel tank on the sending unit can collect the dirt and dust at the bottom of the tank and clog it right up. No fuel pressure, no fun. I replaced mine with a larger version Iíll see if I can find. I got the Harbor Freight fuel pressure kit and checked the pressure by using a clamp at the fuel rail. I removed the fuel rail and injector and cleaned them extensively with carb cleaner to make sure they were not an issue. You can also test the fuel injector with 12v power to make sure it opens and closes.

Hope this gives you more ideas.

Fuel filter upgrade is Airtex FS199.

So I just filled up with 93 octane, so it's fresh gas. Air filter is also new when I did the plugs. I've never treated the gas though.

I'll have to look in to the fuel filter. I also think I need to go through my connections for resistance. I'm working through 600+ pages of the manual for other ideas. I started thinking maybe a CKP sensor, but I'm sure that would throw a code.

Whatever it is, it has to be something that won't throw a code as it's not showing any codes like I said. So maybe I should start looking at something in the fuel system.
