KQ300 Fuel Pump (mine 1999)

Bought this quad a while back, been working on it and almost ready for the big start. Wasn’t running when i bought it.

Don’t know if my fuel pump works or not.

Been reading a lot in this forum about fuel pump issue with vacuum lines etc

Has anyone put an electronic fuel pump on these ?

What pump ?

Think my old 2007 KQ450 had an electric fuel pump, not certain, but here must be another quad out there with an electronic fuel pump that would work.

I need to go look in my service manual to see what the PSI of the factory fuel pump is so I can match it.

Just thiking out a plan if my Fuel pump has issues

Thought ?

I would just stick with the factory fuel pump. They are simple and they work.

Fuel pumps go for like $80-90. Rebuild kits for factory fuel pumps are like $20-30 and are not hard to do. The kits have new springs and diaphragm.

If your set on using an electric fuel pump it is possible and has been done. The one i saw used a low pressure pump and a return line came out of a T just before carb. These quads don't need much pressure at all.

KQ300 Fuel Pump (mine 1999)

Yeah, I agree with 440Tim. Stick with the type fuel pump you already have. My KQ is a 2000 model and Iím still running the same pump. Not all expensive as mentioned if you you do need to replace it. If you want to check if your pump is working, pull the main fuel line off at the carb. Fuel should pulsate out the end of the line, not continuously flow out when cranking the engine.

Are you wanting to check the pump before firing up a new engine for break in?

If you are I'd pull the plug and squirt a little oil in to help rings seal. Pull the fuel line. Put plug back in turn it over without plug wire on. New rings might not be sealing great until seated and might not pull much vaacum. Could make the fuel pump look weak.

These are vacuum diaphragm pumps and should pulse like AJ said.

You could also pull the pump and tear it down and inspect it. Better to find any potential problems now then later.

Either way good luck.

Took the pump all apart, cleaned it up and it works great.

Had the prime the line from the pump to the carb and fill the float bowl by pouring fuel into the line at the back side of the fuel pump.

Then a little starter fluid got it running, vacuum came up an pump works great.
