Yup, sounds like the rectifier is your culprit. Your reading of 12.55 volts at idle and when revving the engine indicates itís not suppling a charge. Thatís the reason your battery keeps dying. Your electrical system is relying solely on your battery to provide power to your entire system. And if your battery dies multiple times, it will eventually discharge and no longer hold a charge altogether.

Similar Charging Issue

My 2002 KQ 300 is not putting out any charging voltage. 12.5 at idle and at 4000rpm.
Could it be the generator? Replies seem to jump to rectifier. Is it rare to have a generator problem? What are some sources for new rectifiers?

The rectifier is most likely the problem....very common.

You can check ALL connections to the battery and all grounds....check the plug ( connector ) to the rectifier for corrosion or burnt contacts first to rule that out.

There are many places for an after market rectifier....Amazon--ebay etc....sometimes hit or miss on the quality....I have had decent luck with them but just be sure to be able to exchange or return if not up to par.

Generator ( stator ) problems do occur but usually not that common.

CDI is not connected to the battery at all. No common components. The stator has 2 separate windings, one for the CDI/ignition and one for the accessories.

12.55 volts is about right with the battery in place, however you should test it with the lights on and battery disconnected while running. It should get up to around 14 volts DC.
