New to the forum.

Hello all, I have a 2001 Suzuki 300 King Quad. I'm having electrical issues as we speak. About 3 weeks ago, my 300KQ just quit. Tried starting it and nothing, but after it sat for a while it fired up and got me back to the house. The next day, after about 5 minutes of riding, it did the same exact thing. I coasted it down a well road and when I got to the bottom I tried starting it and it started and I drove it back to the house which is less than 5 minutes from where I got it started. I pulled the plug to see if it was getting spark, but no spark. after sitting for about 1 1/2 hours it started and I put it away. The next day I changed the plug and ordered a new coil figuring that might be the issue since it would start and run fine then die after about 5 minutes of riding. Before the new coil arrived, I hosed the bike off, since I use it for feeding cattle, the bike was filthy. After this and before the new coil arrived I let the bike idle to dry and it stayed running. When the new coil arrived, the bike continued running like it did before the problem. Ran the bike for a week or so and the problem surfaced again, so I changed out the coil with the new one I ordered. Still no spark after changing out the old coil with the new. I pushed it in the barn, and the very next day it started, so I let it idle and after 5 minutes it died. I pulled the plug, and nothing. No spark again. So today after it sat for 24 hours, I pulled the plug and fired it and had spark again. I put the plug back in and started it up and this time it idled for about 3 minutes and quit. I pulled the plug and fired it, and again no spark. Can someone please help me out as to what might be going on?? Thanks in advance, Brad

New to the forum.

I suspect your CDI is giving you issues. Unless the coil you ordered was bad. Only other thing you could try is a new plug to rule that out. But maybe someone else will chime in and either confirm or suggest something else. And welcome to the Forum.

Check the voltage at the battery while running at idle and revved up a bit......it should not be over 14.7v.

Tonight I checked the ohms on the 2 wires coming from the stator and I got 120.5 ohms. I then tried starting my King Quad and it started for a second or 2 then died. Pulled the plug and you guessed it, no spark. I retested the 2 wires again coming from the stator and this time I didn't get any ohms. Tested the voltage on the 2 exact wires and when cranking I got 0.5 volts. Is it a bad stator? Broken wire? I'm at a loss. Thanks for your guidance and advice in advance. Brad

Your readings indicate a stator issue to me. But maybe someone else can confirm the stator is the culprit. Iím not too knowledgeable when it get to beyond the rectifier/CDI.

The generator lead wires should measure between .1 and 1.0 ohms. If there is no resistance it likely has a short in the lead wire or stator coil. If you can get it to run the generator should put out 60v a.c. minimum with no load at 5000 rpm.
