I have read some stuff about the king quads riding in water...some sites say the king quad has a known issue with water getting in the cvt exhaust because it is located low. I went river riding this weekend and had water up the the racks( well above the cvt exhaust) and had no water enter the engine or the transmission..it rode through the deep water with no problem. After reading those things before taking it in the water i was thinking about snorkeling, but since taking it deep with no problems im having second guesses on snorkeling. Anyone have any info about the king quads in water without snorkels?
Story gets worse. I started having an idle and stalling issue the next day. Back home I investigated. Would start and run for a couple seconds then stall or jump into high rev. Yes, Thomas and AJ would tell me to clean my carb jets, But I just re-built it 6 months ago. No TF way that's the problem. Still thinking an electrical or spark issues. I cleaned the battery cable connections and changed the spark plug. No joy. Started fussing with the choke plunger. Nothing. I thought maybe the diaphragm slider valve might be sticking. Pulled it out and there was dirt on it. Damn. Turns out the intake boot from the filter box had wiggled off enough to create a sliver wide gap. Note the dried muddy water crusted on the intake:
I swapped a carb from the 94. Runs good now. Just a PITA changing carbs on these things because everything is so tight and if you don't get the rubber boots fully secured, things like this happen.
Yep, even if you think the carb's not the issue it's always worth investigating it again. Like you said, one little sliver of a gap and that's all it took. And luckily for me I've never had to remove my carb form my bike (Knock On Wood), though just looking on how tight it is in there i can just imagine what your talking about Tim.
Yeah it takes time and patience to put these things in. I leave it all loose, even the engine intake to cylinder until its all squished in place. The throttle and choke cables have to be installed before the carb goes in. And did I say patience? be sure all those boots are secured and tight else it will rattle apart.
As far as shifting between High/Low/Super, 2WD/4Wd/Diff lock goes, it is entirely up the individual in question whether they want to shift while moving. ( And whoever says no), I am not saying this from my personal perspective or what somebody told me, I just followed what the original owners manual said which clearly states to be at a full stop before switching. So once again, it's entirely up to the individual in question if they want to attempt a moving switch, the chance it fully theirs.
