Mine sounds great when cold but has a slight tick once the engine gets warmed up, what service interval does this need to be checked? I've never done a valve adjustment before... this might seem like a silly question... what two parts are you measuring the gap between?

How many miles are on your quad, the intake valve may need to be replaced they have a tendency to wear off the edge of the head and cause adjusting the valves to be very difficult because it is trying to pull through the head surface. The two parts that you are measuring is between the rocker arm and the top of the shaft on the valve itself.
