Can checking the oil be simple?

I have a 700 King quad and would like to know what you all do to allow easier access to the dipstick.I like to cheak the oil weekly but tired of removing the cover.
Do you leave the cover off or cut it for access.

Another question:
Do you screw the dipstick all the way down for proper oil level?,I hav'nt been.

I've been removing the cover every time to check the oil. That's the one thing I dislike most about my KQ, is that stupid cover over the dip stick. I have seen several modifications on the internet, mostly on the http://www.nyrocatv.com/ website. They'll cut a hole, and then cover it some way or another.

That's something I'll probably wind up doing soon.

Also, I don't screw the dipstick all the way down to check the oil. I just set it back on top of the threads and check oil level that way.

This is the wording out of the manual for my 450, so you may want to check the 700 manual, but I can't imagine that they would change the procedure between models.

The oil level inspection should be
performed under the following
conditions:
• Park the vehicle on level
ground.
• The oil filler cap threads are
not run in but touching the filler
hole upper edge.

Yep i check all my machines the same just set it on treads. When I get a king Quad I plan on cutting a access hole and installing a hinge with a latch of somekind. I always check my oil before every ride with all my machines. don't want to spend 10 mins doing this when it should only take seconds..A tiny dremel tool can work wonders..

work hard to play hard.
Just picked me up a nice like new 07 450 Grizzly

Thank you,
I may take a utility knife and see what damage i can do.

Love the King but feel this is a design flaw if your like me and cheak the oil often.

Wow, sounds like they really make it hard to check the oil on the newer KQ's. I really do like the sight glass set up on my 2000 KQ 300 4x4. It's really to bad they didn't keep that set up, or at least make it easier to access the oil dipstick.

Wow and I thought It was hard to put oil in my quadrunner. tubbytubbs posted they could if theres room put the hinge on the inside or if there's alot they could get spring hinge to keep it closed.
Like ajl719 said the glass sites are wonderful just "wipe" read and go. Is stuff like that only on mid aged quads some mid to late 80s had them 90s had them from what I know and a 01 kawie had one are they dissapering?????

i try to be clear, jump on me if iam not: !! 95 quadrunner250/lt-4wd aka little KQ THANKS JOEL

I'm not sure about the really new quads but they be doing away with them to keep things from hitting them and busting the glass out, which would be really bad considering you would have to replace the side case to fix it.
