1996 300 Suzuki King Quad

Hi guys new to the forum. I hopw im posting my question in the right area. Im having a tough time with my KQ, maybe I can get some answers here. I purchased the KQ last month and the carb was shot, no rebuilding it. I went to a local ATV parts junk yard so to speak. The carb that I bought was different than the one that was on my atv. The guy told me it would still work but i have to get the right vaccum line hooked up and block some off. I have the quad running but its idle is way too fast and thats with no vac hooked up. Does anyone know what vac line i need to run were and why the high idle? Would it be because no vaccumm? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Might be. One vac line i believe runs from the fuel tank to the back side of the fuel petcock. I think there is at least one more on the carb somewhere too. I'm not quite sure though. As for your high idle, did you try adjusting the idle screw at all..? If so the disconnected vac line might be your problem. And welcome to the forum.

Ok guys I got my carb back on and finally got to ride my quad. Only problem now is it is running really rich. I'm gonna get a new spark plug and check it again. Is there any thing else I should check also?

I would start with the basic stuff like cleaning your air filter and see if that helps. Only other ideas i have would be a out of adjustment or dirty carb. Another possibility would be the fuel petcock, I recently got mine change on my 300 KQ because of very poor idling, stalling, and no power and a lot of hesitation. Since then though my bike runs like a champ. I would start with what i mentioned first and if that doesn't solve your problem you may wanna consider changing out the fuel petcock.

I would also check the main jet size, the carb being from another atv its hard to tell what jet it has.

Ok I put in a new plug and air filter still to rich. I'm wondering if I should adjust the float since it's a bigger carb. It's off of a newer KQ. When the air box is off and the quad dies it puffs white smoke from it and it's also backfiring too. Petcock and fuel pump seem to be working right. Zukifreak if the main jets to big can it be adjusted or am I gonna have to get a new carb? Thanks

The carb that was bad is a mikuni 19b9 k671. The new carb is a mikuni 5yt1 00 t427 by the way. Just opened the new carb and the floats all the way down

With the float bowl off the float will be all the way down with the carb upright.check the number on the jet.

The number on the jet is 142.5. I replaced it with a 120 and its still running horrible. its not wanting to move at all now. This 4 wheeler has me confused. It will start and idle but now when giving it throttle it dies
