I don't believe there is a way to test the CDI. And welcome to the forum.

Did you try just changing the spark plug..? Not saying that is the case but it's better to start with the simple things then go from there. Besides that my only other conclusion is the CDI.

i did get a new spark plug, there also may be a short in the wiring how might i test that as to eliminate a possible cause. might it be possible to interchange the cdi from the 230, 250 or 300? as the oem part is very expensive.. and does anyone know of a quadrunner 300?

The older Quadrunners used to be 300's, in about the mid 90's they renamed the 300 to King Quad and the Quadrunners turned to 250's. This stayed this way until 2004 where all 250's and 300's ceased production. Now all newer quads start from about a 400 model and up.

And yes a CDI is expensive that is why i was trying to do basics stuff before heading down that road. It is always best to try parts from another bike that are at least two to three years apart, usually much doesn't change in parts and design within that time frame so looking for parts from bikes that are two to three younger or older then the bike you have should be o.k.

Another route you can go if you're looking to try buy a CDI is Ebay, you might be able to find one on there for a reasonable price as well.
